About James
Cathy and James Ranka is a team music ministry.
Degreed, professional organists are especially difficult to find... James earned a BA in Organ Performance at Concordia University, Austin, TX. But James' strong suit is music technology and contemporary Praise Band experience. He is also a MIDI, Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) expert. His discography continues to grow with 3 CDs available in every online music store, including iTunes, Rhapsody, CD Baby and many, many more. James is also an accomplished arranger, choir director, choir and solo vocal accompanist. He was only 12 years of age when he began his career at St. Paul Lutheran church in Port Arthur, TX as substitute organist. His full-time church work career spans a virtual lifetime and include service in Houston, TX, Escondido, CA, Atascocita, TX and The Groves, TX.
Cathy brings a skill set that exceeds any choral, vocal and pianist needs. She earned BS and Masters degrees in Music Education from Lamar University in Beaumont, TX. Cathy brings 35 years of teaching and church work experience to this incredibly-talented music duo.
Cathy's love and specialty is working with childrens' choirs, but she is also an excellent adult choir director. Vivacious and outgoing, Cathy brings reverance AND fun to every activity. Children adore her abilities to create music programs for special events (Christmas, Easter or any other activity.) She designs the choreography, chooses music and, on occassion, participates as solo vocalist. Cathy is an expert in the Kodaly method of teaching music to children. For progressive, growing churches a strong children's music program is essential and Cathy is unsurpassed in this important area. Cathy is a Song Leader with a beautifully-trained vocal timbre.
James and Cathy comprise a team for a progressive church in growth mode. They each bring different, complimentary personalities and unique abilities that naturally fit. Happily married and musically-gifted, they both exude faith in Jesus Christ so infectious, congregations immediately feel their sincerity through their music.
"Our chief desire is to find the right 'people' fit. We feel called by God to be church music directors and He has placed a desire within our marriage to find that special place where we can help congregational growth in large numbers and in the Christian faith." ... Cathy and James
"Jabez" is an instrumental song I composed for a choreographed musical while serving as Music Director in a large Houston, TX church. I am one of very few musicians who compose, engineer, play all the instruments using MIDI, mix and master all the music you hear throughout this song and any other.
I happened onto this link that delves into this question:
Should music leaders be paid? Hmmm... interesting.
